The Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection has announced temporary emergency measures to assist third-country nationals who are unable to return to Cyprus due to ongoing instability in the Middle East and the resulting disruption to air travel.
Due to airport and flight interruptions that began on 1 March 2026, many residents have been unable to return to Cyprus within the standard permitted absence period. The new measures aim to ensure that affected individuals do not lose their legal immigration status because of circumstances beyond their control.
Entry after extended absence
Under the temporary provisions, third-country nationals holding a valid residence permit who have remained outside Cyprus for more than the usual three-month period will be permitted to re-enter the country until 30 April 2026, provided that their stay abroad occurred after 28 February 2026.
Applicants with residence permit renewal receipts
Individuals who hold a receipt confirming submission of a residence permit renewal application will also be allowed to enter Cyprus until 30 April 2026, even if they have exceeded the normal three-month absence period, provided that their application is either pending or has already been approved.
Extension of entry permits
Entry permits that expire between 1 March and 31 March 2026 will automatically be extended until 30 April 2026, allowing affected individuals additional time to travel back to Cyprus.
The authorities have indicated that these measures are temporary and will remain in place until the end of April. However, the government will continue to monitor developments in the region and may introduce further extensions or additional measures if the travel disruptions persist.
Individuals who may be affected by these developments are encouraged to contact our office for legal advice regarding their specific immigration status and travel arrangements.
